What's in the Village? by Sophia Tao

As students adjust to the new school year, some may wonder what’s available in the town center right next door to CCA. The Village, located in Pacific Highlands Ranch, is home to various restaurants, pastry and dessert shops, places to get groceries, and more. The diverse amount of services means there’s something for everyone!

Trader Joe’s is a long-time favorite of many students. Offering various products ranging from pastries and chips to ready-to-make meals, Trader Joe’s is a perfect place to stop by after school if you ever want to sample a new snack. The store also frequently changes its products to fit the season or an upcoming holiday, so you can always expect to see something new every few weeks. Most students enjoy how Trader Joe’s offers a wide selection while being affordable and relatively cheap; some popular recommendations are its frozen treats like ice cream sandwiches, chocolate pretzels, and Scandinavian Swimmers (an assortment of fish-shaped gummies)!

Another popular place to visit for a quick meal is Panera Bread. Commonly referred to as just “Panera,” this casual restaurant specializes in baked goods and meals incorporating their delicious freshly made breads. Panera is well known in general for its comforting and warm dishes like bread bowls filled with a variety of soups, and their convenient grab-and-go meals. They also have rewards for frequently visiting members, which grants you free pastries and discounts! Some student favorites include their sandwiches and Asiago bagels.

Located across from Panera is Burger Lounge, a fast food restaurant specializing in grass-fed beef hamburgers, salads, french fries, and shakes. Similar to the other stores, Burger Lounge is also well known for its diverse menu options, burger combinations, and more. There are self-serve kiosks so it’s easy to customize your order and sides. Fries or onion rings are definitely some menu highlights!

If you feel more in the mood for drinks, Cheese Garden is a great option. Although generally known for their Japanese-style cheesecakes and desserts, most students visit for their variety of milk teas and fruit-based teas that can include toppings like pudding or boba. Cheese Garden’s small shop is located farther in The Village and can be easily recognized by its yellow and white awning with the store’s name on the front. Some popular drinks that students like include their brown sugar boba milk tea!

In addition to meals and drinks, there are also stores like Everbowl, which is located near the center of the Village. The store specializes in desserts and refreshments, like customizable acai bowls and smoothies. Although some students express that its prices are a tad expensive, the general consensus is that the acai bowls and smoothies are tasty and refreshing. There are also plenty of vegan and nut or dairy-free selections, meaning there are options for everyone!

These are just 5 of the multitudes of shops to visit in the Village. The abundance of places and diversity is greatly appreciated by students, especially those who are involved in extracurriculars or other activities and need to eat somewhere convenient. Be sure to take a look and explore a bit!
