Recently, a game called Dress to Impress suddenly rose in popularity, and now is everywhere, with content on all social media platforms. But what exactly is Dress to Impress and why is it so popular? 

To start off, Dress to Impress is a Roblox game which was released in November of 2023 and exploded in popularity over the summer. The game immediately boasts a higher quality than previous dress up games such as Fashion Famous (which was my favorite as a kid), and the outfits are cuter and more aligned with what people wear nowadays. The models are strikingly different from those in other games as well, with them being taller with an hourglass figure and not like the stereotypical Roblox avatar. The player is given a model and five minutes to dress it to a pre-chosen theme, which changes each round. At the end of each round, the players will go onto a runway and rate each other's outfits out of five stars. The players who received the highest number of stars that round get displayed on the podium. The gameplay, therefore, is very similar to older Roblox dress up games like Fashion Famous. 

The game is popular because its concept allows for creativity but is also competitive, meaning the player can wear expressive, wild outfits that they would never think of wearing in real life while still challenging the player to dress according to the theme. Many people also play it to express themselves, and to see just what they can come up with. Dress to Impress also blew up in popularity because of its collaboration with Charli XCX, which added clothes based off of her new album, brat, and introduced the game to a whole new age group, as more people flocked towards the game. This made Dress to Impress one of the most popular games on Roblox, with over one billion visits. 

However, even though Dress to Impress is extremely popular and is higher quality than previous dress-up games, there are still many complaints about the gameplay and voting. Most

people who play Dress to Impress feel as if the voting is controlled by trolls. They claim that the people who play either don’t vote, or will vote for either the most outlandish outfit or the outfits that don’t fit the theme, which is frustrating for those who actually take the game seriously. Another common complaint is the fact that most of the better outfits are only accessible with VIP, which costs Robux, meaning those who either don’t have enough or can’t buy more won’t be able to play the game to its full extent, as the VIP players will always win, making the game hard to play for casual players. 

In the end, Dress to Impress is a fun game which is playable by all age groups. Its popularity is due to the fact that its concept is so simple and easy to understand, but still allows for creativity and challenge. The game simply requires the players to put together the best outfit according to the theme, but this allows for a lot of creativity and also allows for self-expression. Dress to Impress is a great way to simply relax and have fun either alone or with friends, putting together outfits in the virtual version of dress-up.
