Coming into 2025, something that should be on everybody’s bucket list is to see live music, as there are a wide variety of upcoming tours that are sure to be unforgettable. Whether that includes old bands touring for the first time in years or big artists performing their brand-new albums, there’s something for everyone.
Starting off strong, Oasis is bringing their reunion tour to North America this year. While their “Live ‘25” tour is mainly taking place in the UK, they are stopping in LA at the Rose Bowl Stadium on September 6 with opener Cage the Elephant. Tickets are on the pricier side, but if you consider yourself an Oasis fan, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity you won’t want to pass up, as it has been 16 years since the brothers’ last concert in North America.
Yet another band that is back on tour after decades is My Chemical Romance. The main reason for this prolonged break is that MCR broke up in 2013, so seeing them together on tour again is a big deal for many of their original fans. They are stopping at Dodger Stadium in LA on July 26 and 27 with special guest Wallows.
For those more into rap or R&B, Kendrick Lamar and SZA are joining forces on a “Grand National Tour” this year. This event is their second joint tour (the first one being in 2018), and they have several popular song collabs such as “All the Stars,” “luther” (from Kendrick’s newest album), and “30 for 30” (from SZA’s latest album). They are playing at the SoFi stadium in Inglewood on May 21 and 23.
Another big name touring this year is Tyler, The Creator, who is known for putting on unique and unforgettable shows. His 2024 album Chromokopia was a music highlight for many last year, and he is starting this new album tour in February 2025, accompanied by openers Lil Yachty and Paris Texas. Tyler is playing 3 nights in LA’s Crypto.com Arena: Feb 14, 15, and 17.
While the most popular artists’ tours often only stop in major cities like LA (and making the trip up north is usually worth it), there are also fun events around San Diego that tend to be more affordable and convenient.
For example, this summer on June 13, Peach Pit and Briston Maroney are playing at Petco Park on their “Long Hair, Long Life Tour.” These two indie-pop artists definitely encapsulate the surfer vibe of San Diego and will be sure to put on a fun summer performance.
Among popular local venues is SOMA San Diego, the best “all-ages venue for punk and alternative-rock concerts” (San Diego Union-Tribune). Some bands performing there this year are Panchiko, Coin, and Turnover. Another great San Diego venue is The Sound, which is located right inside the Del Mar Fairgrounds. It is a super convenient, no-stress experience to get to the venue, and has both floor and balcony seating. Some bands visiting The Sound soon are Hippo Campus, flipturn, and Remi Wolf. Also worth mentioning is the House of Blues, a restaurant and bar with frequent live music shows. Performers stopping here this year include Grent Perez and The Walters. These local spots are on the smaller side, so they offer a much more chill and intimate experience than going to an overcrowded LA stadium.
Overall, the year is going to be filled with memorable music performances. Whether you’re looking to see your favorite artists in the big arenas, or simply wanting to hear some live shows around San Diego, you won’t want to miss out on the music scene. From long-awaited reunions to new collabs, these upcoming tours are sure to make 2025 a year to remember.
